CrossFit Level 1

Greg has been active in sports his entire life – barefoot waterskiing, cycling, racquetball, windsurfing, golf…and since early 2011, CrossFit.  As his participation in CrossFit increased over the last few years, his regular participation in other activities has decreased.  However, the level of functional fitness that CrossFit develops transfers extremely well to other sports allowing him to jump right back into the activities he still enjoys - a competitive racquetball match or a day windsurfing at the Outer Banks in 25+ mph winds - even after weeks/months away from them.

Greg moved to the Hampton Roads area in 1982 to begin his engineering career at Newport News Shipbuilding.  He has a B. S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Miami and holds a Professional Engineering license in the state of Virginia.

Greg is a former USRA (US Racquetball Association) Certified Instructor and coached a junior developmental team at the Greenbrier YMCA as well as ran instructional clinics and gave private lessons.  Greg has competed in numerous CVRA (Commonwealth of Virginia Racquetball Association) sanctioned tournaments and won several at the Open level, including the VA State Singles Championship in 2009.  Greg also runs a group exercise class (bootcamp) at the Greenbrier YMCA.

Greg’s introduction to CrossFit came from a coach at Velocity Sports Performance in 2010.  He spent a year dabbling with a couple WODs each week at home, watched every video on the CrossFit.com website, and finally sent an email to Dianne to enroll him in an Essentials class at CFOP.  He started competing in the CrossFit Open in 2013 in the Masters 55-59 division and advanced to the Masters Qualifier (top 200 worldwide) in 2014.
